AI Role Play – Learner Guide

Written by Human-Focus

Role Play is an AI-powered training experience that allows you to practise realistic workplace conversations in a safe and interactive environment.

Instead of simply reading information or answering multiple-choice questions, you take part in a conversation with an AI character. The conversation adapts to your responses, allowing you to practise how you would communicate and handle a real workplace situation.

Accessing a Role Play

Role Play is available as part of a training course when a Role Play activity has been included in the training.

  1. Log in to your e-Learning account.

  2. Open the relevant training course.

  3. Complete the training sections as required.

  4. When you reach the Role Play section, you will be introduced to the scenario and the role you need to play.

Note: The Role Play may appear at a specific point within a training course, depending on how the training has been set up.

Starting the Role Play

Before the conversation begins, you will be given information about the situation you are about to handle.

This may include:

  • The workplace scenario.

  • The role you are expected to play.

  • Information about the AI character you will be speaking with.

  • Instructions about how to approach the conversation.

Read the scenario carefully before starting so you understand the situation and your role.

Taking Part in the Conversation

Once the Role Play starts, you will interact with an AI character.

You can respond naturally based on the situation presented to you. You are not simply selecting an answer from a list of predefined options.

For example, you may be asked to:

  • Speak with an employee about a safety concern.

  • Handle a difficult conversation.

  • Respond to inappropriate workplace behaviour.

  • Discuss a performance or compliance issue.

  • Communicate with a customer or colleague.

Think about what you would actually say and how you would handle the situation in the workplace.

The conversation is dynamic

The AI character responds based on what you say. This means the conversation may develop differently depending on your responses.

You may need to consider:

  • What you should say.

  • How you communicate your message.

  • How you respond to the other person's behaviour.

  • How you can manage the situation effectively.

There may not be one predefined response that you need to select. Instead, the Role Play gives you an opportunity to practise handling the conversation yourself.

Completing the Role Play

Continue the conversation until the Role Play is completed.

Once you have completed the Role Play, the system will record the interaction and make the available results accessible to you.

Depending on the Role Play, you will able to review:

  • The conversation you had with the AI character.

  • Your performance.

  • Feedback provided by the system.

  • Information associated with the completed Role Play.

Reviewing Your Role Play

After completing the Role Play, you can use the available review options to look back at your performance.

View Chat

Select View Chat to review the conversation you had with the AI character.

This allows you to see:

  • Your responses.

  • The AI character's responses.

  • How the conversation developed.

  • The complete interaction from the Role Play.

Reviewing the conversation can help you think about how you handled the situation and consider whether you would respond differently in a real workplace situation.

View Report

Select View Report to review feedback about your Role Play performance.

The report provides information about how you performed during the conversation and may highlight areas such as communication, decision-making and how effectively you handled the scenario.

Use the feedback to identify areas where you performed well and where you could improve.

Tips for Completing a Role Play

For the best experience:

  • Read the scenario carefully before starting.

  • Respond naturally rather than trying to guess a specific answer.

  • Think about the situation from the other person's perspective.

  • Consider how you would communicate in a real workplace situation.

  • Take your time to consider your response.

  • Review your chat and report after completing the Role Play to learn from the experience.

Why use Role Play?

Role Play gives you an opportunity to move beyond simply learning what you should know and practise what you would actually say and do.

It provides a safe environment to practise difficult conversations, build confidence and improve communication and decision-making skills before applying them in real workplace situations.
